One of my favorite crafts that I’ve made has to be this spool skeleton I made out of spools, floral wire, crackle paint and beads.
Wooden Spools, 12
Wooden Ball for head
6mm and 8 mm Beads (not pictured, sizes optional)
Black and Cream Acrylic Paint
I painted the spools according to the crackle paint instructions.
1st coat = black, 2 coat = crackle, 3rd coat = cream
Step 1: Cut enough floral wire to thread on spools and beads. Each leg will have 2 spools and 2 beads.
Step 2: Thread bead and spool and hook wire around bottom bead.
Step 3: Push the wire back into the spool and string another bead and spool on to complete first leg. Make second leg, set aside.
Step 4: Working on body. Cut length of wire for body and head, string 8 mm bead through and secure by twisting around body wire.
Step 5: Put one leg through the body bead hole.
Step 6: Put the other leg through the opposite way. On top of body bead, twist all three wires. After I twisted them, I wrapped masking tape around and proceeded with making the body, adding a spool, bead, spool, bead.
Step 7: I drilled a hole horizontally through the body of a spool so it would be easier to make the arms and placed that spool on the body wire. I cut another piece of wire, put it through the horizontal spool and made the arms (bead, spool, bead, spool, bead).
Step 8: I twisted the wire back into the beads and spools. I found it easier if I bent them on both side before trying to insert them in as this stopped them from sliding a long wire.
Use marker to draw on face. I can’t decide what I want, so he’s blank for now.
I put him on our Halloween wreath and thinks he fits perfectly with our homemade toilet roll Bats and the rest.
